Colorbond – How the Best Sheds In Perth WA Are Built

Colorbond, I’m sure you’ve heard of it. Colorbond is made in Australia by Bluescope and is the sheeting you see on most sheds and tin roofs across Australia. That is with good reason, simply put, it is the best.

AMC Sheds prides itself on partnering with a proud Australian company such as Colorbond. We trust only the best and highest quality materials with our sheds and your investment.

Genuine Colorbond is often imitated but never matched. Colorbond understands and has manufactured a product which not just stands the test of time in the Australian climate but is a brand that is instantly recognisable and a word in its own right. That’s why you always insist on genuine Colorbond and never “similar to” or “equivalent to”.

Colorbond is tested in the harsh Australian climate of heat, dust, hail, wind, rain and even cold. There are over 12,000 panels exposed across Australia to extreme harsh environments such as severe marine environments, differing humidity, heavy industrial and highly tropical. Colorbond not only meets but far exceeds all Australian testing standards.

Let’s break down some of the mystery around the jargon.

Looking to Build the Best Shed in Perth? Choose Colorbond.

BMT? What’s that and should you care?.. Yes!

BMT is an abbreviation for Bare Metal Thickness. It is, as suggested, the thickness of your metal sheeting without paint. The common BMT’s for Colorbond are 0.35, 0.42, 0.48 and 0.55. These numbers stand for the thickness in millimetres of the bare steel.

  • 0.35mm: Generally used for fencing panels and lightweight applications with no load bearing. AMC Sheds does not use this product. We’re serious about building the best sheds in Perth WA: not the cheapest. Some manufacturers use 0.35mm as a roofing product, with engineering notes labelling the roof as ‘non-trafficable’. In bad cases, water can pool around overtightened screws, increasing leakage risks.
  • 0.42mm: 20% thicker. AMC Sheds’ base standard. Trafficable on roofs, walls resist dimpling. Optimal balance of cost, functionality, and quality.
  • 0.48mm: Heavy-duty for industrial/large projects. Spans longer distances between purlins, reducing structural costs.
  • 0.55mm: Industry standard for flashings (corner flashings, ridge cappings). Critical for structural integrity.

TCT? What Do We Have Now?

TCT (Total Coated Thickness) refers to BMT + paint thickness:

  • 0.35BMT = 0.42TCT
  • 0.42BMT = 0.47TCT

Always compare quotes using BMT/TCT accurately – a 0.42TCT vs 0.42BMT has 20% less steel!

Colours

Colorbond offers 22 classic finish colours and 6 matt finishes. Perfect for matching existing fences, roofs, or structures. Review photos in our gallery to see real-world examples.

Beware of Imitations

  • Look for the Colorbond logo/writing on sheeting.
  • Avoid copycats with thinner BMT, faded paint, or mismatched colours.
  • Cheap alternatives compromise strength, longevity, and aesthetics.
